Open-source game detail
Game of Sums
Build the target number from two cards and plan how to use your cards while practising mental addition.
Learning goal
Practise finding addends mentally, comparing more than one solution, and planning how to use number cards.
How to play
- Choose English. The game uses two fixed player labels and does not ask for names.
- One player selects a target number and chooses Ready.
- The other player selects two number cards that make the target, then chooses Ready.
- Use Pass if no suitable cards remain. End-of-round stars describe only the game turn; they do not label a child’s maths ability.
Note for parents and teachers
Instead of giving the equation, ask, “How many different ways can we split the target into two parts?” Begin with a small number range.
