Learning goal

Practise recognising quantities from 1–9 without counting one by one, grouping shapes, and connecting numerals with amounts.

How to play

1. Begin with 5 rounds · slow and look briefly at the moving shapes.
2. Before the shapes disappear, estimate how many there are and choose a number button from 1 to 9.
3. Check the correct amount on the result card. In the next round, try seeing the shapes as small groups of two or three.
4. Tap controls on a touchscreen. With a keyboard, use Tab to move and Enter or Space to activate a round or number button.

Note for parents and teachers

Start with the slow mode. Instead of asking for speed, ask, “Which small groups did you see?” The score describes only this play session and does not measure a child’s mathematics level.
